Redundancies

When an employer issues redundancies, it is their responsibility to treat you fairly and to follow the correct procedure when considering redundancies.

If your employer is making less than 20 employees redundant in your place of work, they are obliged to provide an individual consultation. If however, your employer is making more than 20 redundancies within a 90 day period, known as collective redundancies, they must consult with the representatives of those employees that could potentially be affected. It is therefore important that your employer consults with you before issuing redundancy, enabling you to explore alternative positions or, if applicable, re-deployment. If an employer has not followed the relevant procedure, you may have been unfairly dismissed.
